SYMPTOMS

When you are using the America Online software configured to use a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Winsock connection instead of a modem connection, you receive the following error message when you try to download a file from America Online over a Dial-Up Networking TCP/IP Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) Internet connection:
(TCP/IP) Lost Connection

This error message usually occurs when the download is approximately 50 percent finished. After the error message occurs, the file transfer is halted and you are disconnected from America Online.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade your America Online software to version 2.5 or later. For information about obtaining this software upgrade, please contact America Online Technical Support.
