How to Configure HyperTerminal to Answer Incoming Calls
This article was previously published under Q142899
This article contains information about using Windows in a configuration
that has not been tested and is not supported by Microsoft. If the steps
described in this article do not function properly, use a supported
configuration.
This article describes how to configure HyperTerminal to answer an
incoming phone call.
To set up HyperTerminal to answer an incoming call, follow these steps:
- Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories (or
Communications), and then click HyperTerminal.
- Double-click the Hypertrm.exe icon. You may want to name the connection
"Answer Mode."
- Enter the information for the connection, and then click OK.
Because you will use this connection for answering, the phone number
you enter is not important. However, you must enter a phone number.
- Click Cancel to bypass the connect process.
- On the File menu, click Properties.
- On the Settings tab, click ASCII Setup.
You may want to set one or more of the following properties to allow
characters to be displayed properly in the Terminal window:
- Send line ends with line feed
- Echo typed characters locally
- Append line feeds to incoming lines
- Wrap lines that exceed terminal width
Click OK. Click OK again to return to HyperTerminal.
- Wait for the incoming call. When you see the command "ring" or you hear
the phone ring, type the answer command for your modem. On many modems,
the answer command is "ATA."
NOTE: If your modem supports automatic answering mode, type the
following command to cause the modem to answer incoming calls
automatically:
ATS0=1

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
