This article describes how to view resource availability for shared resources.

The resource usage view has the ability to display resource availability. Availability being when a resource is not assigned to another task. Not only is this available in a single project file, but it is also available when working with a common resource pool across multiple projects.

To see the availability of a resource in a single project file, use the method appropriate for your version of Microsoft Project.

Microsoft Project 2010

1.   On the View tab, click Resource Usage .

2.   On the Format tab, click Remaining Availability .

Microsoft Project 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007

  1. On the View menu, click Resource Usage.
  2. On the Format menu, point to Details, and then click Remaining Availability.

Versions 4.0, 4.1

  1. On the View menu, click Resource Usage.
  2. On the Format menu, point to Details and then click Availability.

Version 3.0

  1. On the View menu, click Resource Usage.
  2. On the Format menu, click Availability.
To see the availability of a resource when using a common resource pool, use the method appropriate for your version of Microsoft Project..

Microsoft Project 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2010

Open the pool file to see resource availability as well as task assignments, costs, work, and other tracking information.

Versions 3.x, 4.0, 4.1

  1. Open or consolidate all files that use the resource pool.
  2. On the View menu, click Resource Usage.
