SYMPTOMS

When you use a shared program in a NetMeeting conference, the shared program may appear discolored.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because computers participating in the conference have different color palette settings.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your version of NetMeeting:

NetMeeting 2.x

To change the Color Palette setting:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Color Palette box, click High Color (16 bit) or a lower setting.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart your computer when you are prompted.
NOTE: NetMeeting version 2.x supports sending only up to 256 colors across a network connection.

NetMeeting 3.x

To share a program in True Color:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Color Palette box, click High Color (24 bit), and then click OK.
  4. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Internet Tools, and then click NetMeeting.
  5. Click Tools, click Sharing, click to select the Share in true color check box, and then click Close.

MORE INFORMATION

True Color Video Conferencing in NetMeeting Version 3.x

If a computer joins the NetMeeting conference with a color palette setting less than True Color (24 bit), the program automatically adjusts the color of the shared program to use 256 color. When the computer with the lower setting leaves the conference, the shared program automatically adjusts again to share in True Color (24 bit). Note that you can not use 16 bit to share in True Color.

Also, if the computer sharing a program has a color palette setting greater than 256 colors and the shared program is using the default 256 colors, all other users may see dithered colors in the shared program window.

True Color video conferencing connections may lose video quality. For the best video quality, participants in a NetMeeting conference should adjust their color palette to 16 bit.
