XL97: "FrontPage Cannot Be Found on Your Machine" in Wizards

This article was previously published under Q178129

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you click "Add the result to your FrontPage Web" in step 4 of the Web Form Wizard or you click "Add the result to my FrontPage Web" in step 4 of the Internet Assistant Wizard, and you are using Microsoft FrontPage 98; the following error message may appear:
FrontPage cannot be found on your machine. Please make sure that it is installed and working properly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Web Form Wizard and the Internet Assistant Wizard do not work with Microsoft FrontPage 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain an updated version of the Internet Assistant Wizard for Microsoft Excel 97. The updated Internet Assistant Wizard (Html.xla) allows you to export a worksheet to a Microsoft FrontPage 98 Web.

NOTE: This only corrects the problem when using the Internet Assistant Wizard (Save As HTML on the File menu). There is no workaround for the problem with the Web Form Wizard.

NOTE: This feature has been updated since Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1) has been released. If Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows SR-1 is installed, you must download and install Html.xla to use it with Microsoft FrontPage 98.

To obtain the updated Internet Assistant Wizard for Microsoft Excel 97, use your Web browser to go to the following Web address:
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/html.aspx (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/html.aspx)
To work around this problem, click "Save the result as a Microsoft Excel file" in step 4 of the wizards, and then import the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) page into your FrontPage Web from Microsoft FrontPage. To import the saved HTML file from Microsoft Excel 97 into your Microsoft FrontPage 98 Web, follow these steps:

  1. Start Microsoft FrontPage.
  2. If the Web in which you want to save the HTML file is not already open, click Open FrontPage Web on the File menu, select your Web, and click OK.
  3. Click Import on the File menu.
  4. Click Add File. Locate the HTML file and click Open. Then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.
