Computer stops responding when you run the Add New Hardware tool

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Add New Hardware tool, your computer may stop responding (hang). Also, your computer may hang intermittently.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a 4 or 8 megabyte (MB) Hercules Thriller 3D video adapter with a Thriller 3D Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) version earlier than 1.04.141 (dated March 26, 1998), and drivers earlier than version 0.85.3596 (dated June 30th, 1998).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update the BIOS and drivers for your Hercules Thriller 3D card. For information about how to do so, view the documentation included with your video adapter, contact Hercules Technical Support, or view the following Hercules Web site.
