Computer stops responding when you run the Add New Hardware tool
This article was previously published under Q192299
When you try to use the Add New Hardware tool, your computer may stop
responding (hang). Also, your computer may hang intermittently.
This behavior can occur if you are using a 4 or 8 megabyte (MB) Hercules
Thriller 3D video adapter with a Thriller 3D Basic Input/Output System
(BIOS) version earlier than 1.04.141 (dated March 26, 1998), and drivers
earlier than version 0.85.3596 (dated June 30th, 1998).
To resolve this issue, update the BIOS and drivers for your Hercules
Thriller 3D card. For information about how to do so, view the
documentation included with your video adapter, contact Hercules
Technical Support, or view the following Hercules Web site.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
