This article was previously published under Q197221
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a Home page by clicking the Start Page button on the Web toolbar in Microsoft Access, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to open http://. Cannot connect to the Internet server.

CAUSE

The Home page address in your Web browser is set to http://.

RESOLUTION

Create a valid Home page for your Web browser. Then you will be able to start your Web browser with this page when you click the Start Page button on the Web toolbar.

MORE INFORMATION

When you start a Web browser, the Start page is the first page that appears in the browser. You can set this page to any Web site that you want, or to a database object in Microsoft Access. To create a Start page, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Access, open the database, or the table, query, form, or report in the database that you want to use as the Start page.
  2. On the Web toolbar, click Go, and then click Set Start Page.
  3. When you are prompted with the message about setting your Start page, click Yes.

NOTE: When you change the Start page by using the Web toolbar in an Office program, the new Start page used in your Office program is also used in your Web browser if the browser is compatible with Office.
