ACC2000: Page Remains in DB Window After Deleting HTML File

This article was previously published under Q200206

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If you delete the associated HTML file for a data access page, the Database window does not refresh when you open the database or press the Database window refresh key (F5). When you try to open a page, and if someone has deleted the underlying HTML file, you receive the following message:
The HTML file that corresponds to the selected data access page has been moved, renamed or deleted from <path>.

Press Locate to specify a new path or press Cancel to cancel the operation.

CAUSE

The shortcut in the Database window does not attempt to verify that the HTML file still exists in the same folder until you open the page.

RESOLUTION

The following steps show how to correctly delete a page:
  1. Select the page that you want to delete.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  3. If you receive the following message, click Yes:
Do you want to delete the data access page <page name>? For more
information on how to prevent this message from displaying
every time you delete an object, click Help.

  4. Click Yes when you receive the following message.
You have chosen to delete the data access page. Choose Yes
to permanently delete the link and page files(s), No to
          delete just the link.

MORE INFORMATION

Pages are stored outside the database in a separate file. What you see in the Database window is a shortcut to that external HTML file.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages under Objects.
  3. On the Database Window toolbar, click New. Click OK.
  4. On the File menu, click Save. Note the name of the folder in the Save in list. In the File Name box, type Page1.htm, and then click Save.
  5. On the File menu, click Close.
  6. Using Windows Explorer, open the folder to which you save Page1.htm in step 4.
  7. Delete Page1.htm.
  8. Switch to Access.
  9. Press F5. Note that Page1 is still in the Database window.
  10. On the File menu, click Close.
  11. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb. Note that Page1 is still in the Database window.
