OL2000: Error Received When You Import or Export Files
This article was previously published under Q202276
When you try to import or export files with Outlook, the following information message appears:
Microsoft Outlook cannot start the required translator. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now?
This behavior can occur if the necessary translator files or database converters are not available because they were not installed during Setup. Converters in Outlook 2000 are installed on demand. This applies to third-party personal information management (PIM) files, and file types that use Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
Click
Yesto the information message. The Windows installer will start and install the necessary converter for the file you wish to import.
If clicking Yes above does not resolve the issue, run Office Setup, Add Components, and choose "Run all From my Computer" for Outlook and Converters and Filters.
Converters for the following third-party PIM files are available for installation with Outlook:
- ACT!, vers. 2.0, 3.x, and 4.0
- ECCO 2.0, 3.0, 4.0
- Personal Address Book
- Schedule+, vers. 1.0, 7.0
- Sidekick, vers. 95, 2.0
- Lotus Organizer, vers. 1.0, 1.1, 2.1, 97
Converters are available for the following files types including Microsoft products:
- dBase
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft FoxPro
The third-party products that are discussed in this article are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.
APPLIES TO

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
