ACC2000: Error Adding a List Box or Dropdown List to a Page

This article was previously published under Q203986
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

This article applies only to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb).

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a list box or drop-down list box to a data access page, you may receive the following error:
The Wizard will only run when your current database is the datasource for your page.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You try to add a control while the Control Wizards is enabled. -and-

  • You use different types of connection when you create and open the database. For example, you create the database by using a UNC path (\\<servername>\<sharename>\Db1.mdb), but you open the database by using a mapped drive (F:\Db1.mdb).

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, follow these steps:

  1. If the field list is not visible, on the View menu, click Field List. In the field list, click the Database tab.
  2. Right-click the database icon. On the shortcut menu, click Connection.
  3. In the Select or enter a database name box, type the full path that you used when you opened the database. For example, type F:\Db1.mdb.

NOTE: If you are entering a drive letter, you must use the same drive letter that you used to open the database.
  4. Type the user name and password, and then click OK.
