SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message:

The following file or files contain errors which prevent them from working.

TCxxxxxxxxx[[fn=filename]].glox

For more information, see the log file for SmartArt graphics.

CAUSE

There is a problem with the XML schema of one or more custom SmartArt (*.glox) files in the following folder: 
\%AppData%\Microsoft\Templates\SmartArt Graphics

RESOLUTION

To resolve this error, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Uncheck the Connect to Office.com option in the Trust Center.

  1. Open Microsoft Word 2010.
  2. Click File > Options.
  3. Select Trust Center, and then click the Trust Center Settings button.
  4. Select Privacy Options, and then uncheck Connect to Office.com for updated content when I'm connected to the Internet.
  5. Click OK, and then restart Word 2010.
Note: If you are experiencing the problem in Excel 2010 or PowerPoint 2010, follow the same steps but open the Office program that has the problem.

Method 2: Delete SmartArt Graphics files.

You can delete these files from this folder location:

\%AppData%\Microsoft\Templates\SmartArt Graphics

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and type this line in the Search programs and files box:
    \%AppData%\Microsoft\Templates\SmartArt Graphics

  2. Select all the files in the window that opens and delete them.

Method 3: Click OK on the error message.

The error message will only appear once per session. If you click OK, you should not receive the error again until you exit and then restart Word 2010.
