XL2000: Error Message When You Copy a Formula Containing a Label

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a formula from one cell to another, the resulting value may be a #NULL! error.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You copy a formula that contains both a label and a defined name reference.

    -and-
  • The reference to the defined name is located between two label references, as in the following example:
    =Label1Defined nameLabel2
    -and-
  • The Accept labels in formulas check box is selected (on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Calculations tab).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Natural language formulas allow you to refer to a cell range in a table by using row or column labels as the reference name.
