PUB2000: File Link Error Message When Opening Publisher
This article was previously published under Q212647
You may receive the following error messages, when you open
a Publisher document that contains a linked object:
- When the server application is renamed:
Cannot update object. Windows may be low on memory or disk space, or an object may not be correctly registered.
-
If you copy and paste an object, such as text from Microsoft Word 2000, into a publication or if you double-click an object in the publication:
Publisher cannot launch or communicate with the OLE server program needed to complete this task.
There may not be enough disk space, or there may be a problem with the server program. To make more disk space available, delete some unneeded files on your hard disk. If you suspect a problem with the server program, try reinstalling it. Then try this task again.
The path in the Windows Registry to the server application
is incorrect. Additionally, some antivirus programs may block access to the
server program through a script blocking feature.
Reinstall the server application to rewrite the registry
entries. If you reinstall the server program and that does not resolve the
problem, turn off the script blocking feature in your antivirus
program.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
