This article was previously published under Q212652

SUMMARY

In most cases the automatic text-wrap feature in Microsoft Publisher will prevent text from overlapping. It is possible to create the effect of overlapped or superimposed text; however, the text must be in separate text frames.

MORE INFORMATION

To achieve the effect of overlapping text boxes, follow these steps:
  1. Draw a text frame in your publication, and insert your text.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text Frame Properties.
  3. Click to clear the Wrap Text Around Objects check box, and click OK.
  4. Draw a second text frame that overlaps the first. Insert your text.
  5. To format the frame as transparent, press CRTL+T.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

I have just changed from using Pagemaker to using Publisher and one of my first documents has me stumped. I want to use several text blocks and I have set column guides from the Layout menu to aid in placement. My problem is figuring out how to change the size of the gutter between the columns. Can anyone please help me? Also, is there a keyboard shortcut for setting the layout guides? It seems awfully cumbersome. Thanks.
