XL2000: Valid Geographic Names for Microsoft Map
This article was previously published under Q214385
In Microsoft Excel 2000, you can use Microsoft Map to graphically represent data associated with a geographic area. For Microsoft Map to recognize a territory, such as a country or province, the name must be a valid name or abbreviation.
If you have installed Microsoft Map, you can see a listing of valid geographic territories that Microsoft Map recognizes by opening the following file:
Mapstats.xls
This file is installed with the Microsoft Map program and is located in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DataMap\Data
Mapstats.xls contains the following geographic and demographic
information:
- World data by country
- United States data by state
- Canada data by province
- Mexico data by state
- Europe data by country
- United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland data by county
- Australia data by state
- South Africa and neighboring countries data by region

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
