XL2000: Graduated Symbol Is the Only Symbol Available in Microsoft Map

This article was previously published under Q214387

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Microsoft Map object in Microsoft Excel, the only symbol that is available in the Microsoft Map Control dialog box is the Graduated symbol (five-pointed star).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the data that you use to create the map uses ZIP/Postal Codes as geographic data.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you format the first column of the data with a postal code number format and then create a Microsoft Map object on the worksheet, the only symbol that you can display on the map to represent the data is the Graduated symbol.
