PUB2000: Cannot Trap Adobe Type 1 Fonts if Running Windows 95/98
This article was previously published under Q216084
If you run Publisher 2000 on Windows 95 or Windows 98, it can trap only TrueType fonts. Publisher 2000 cannot trap text set in printer resident or Adobe Type 1 (PostScript) fonts.
Publisher 2000 relies on the operating system to manipulate text. Publisher also treats text as Unicode (a technology that allows a single font file to contain up to 65,536 different symbols.) In order to trap a particular font, the operating system has to provide a set of Unicode-aware Application Program Interfaces (API's). Windows 95 and Windows 98 provide Unicode-aware API's for TrueType fonts. The Windows 95/98 version of Adobe Type Manager does not.
Adobe Type Manager for Windows NT does provide Unicode-aware API's for Adobe Type 1 fonts, so if you run Publisher 2000 on Windows NT (and you have Adobe Type Manager installed), you can trap text in Adobe Type 1 fonts.
For more information about trapping PostScript fonts, click
Microsoft Publisher Help on the
Help menu, type
trapping Adobe_Type_Manager in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click
Search to view the topic.
