Intel Pentium or Celeron CPU Identified Incorrectly
This article was previously published under Q216204
When you run the Microsoft System Information tool or view
the
General tab in System properties, the Intel Pentium III or Celeron
Central Processing Unit (CPU) in your computer may be listed as an Intel
Pentium II CPU or an Intel Pentium Pro CPU. Also, the processor type may be
displayed instead of the "friendly" processor name.
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Windows is aware of
only those friendly processor names that existed when Windows was developed.
For example, if a new name came out after Windows was released, that name would
not be available in that version of Windows.
To work around this behavior, please consult the
documentation that was included with your computer to determine which CPU you
have, or use a third party utility specifically written that identifies
processor type and speed.
An example of such a program is the Intel
Processor Frequency ID utility. This utility should provide the correct
information about your processor type and bus speed. To download this utility,
for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, and Windows 2000, view the
following Intel Web site:

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
