Cannot View Security-Enhanced Web Sites Using America Online

SYMPTOMS

When you try to view a security-enhanced Web site using Internet Explorer while you are connected to America Online, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot open Internet site https://Web address. A connection to the server could not be established.
where Web address is the Web address you are trying to view. Note that this issue may occur in other Internet browser programs.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using an America Online screen name that has parental controls enabled. You cannot view security-enhanced Web sites if you are using an America Online screen name that has parental controls enabled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable parental controls for the appropriate screen name or configure the parental controls to use the Adult or 18+ setting. For information about how to do this, contact America Online.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use a screen name that does not have parental controls enabled.
