OFF2000: Internet Explorer 5 Setup Fails Without Warning

When you install Office 2000, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 either is not installed completely or is not installed at all. You do not receive a message to indicate that Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is not installed correctly, in either situation.
An error occurred during the silent installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, while you were installing Microsoft Office 2000. For example, you may have less than 5 megabytes of disk space on the hard disk where your operating system is located, or a general Setup error may have occurred. None of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is installed if there is insufficient disk space on the hard disk where your operating system is located. Some components of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 may be installed in other situations.
To work around this problem, run Internet Explorer 5 Setup by following these steps:
- On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
- In the Open box, click Browse. Insert the first Office 2000 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive. Open the \Ie5\en\ folder, and double-click Ie5setup.exe.
- Follow the instructions on your screen to complete Setup.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
By default, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is installs silently during Microsoft Office 2000 Setup.
