OFF2000: CD Key Overwritten After Pressing Backspace to Correct a Mistake

This article was previously published under Q217530

SYMPTOMS

When you type your CD key in the Welcome to Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, you may accidentally overwrite part of the CD key.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you use BACKPSACE to correct a mistake while you type the CD key. When you use BACKSPACE to clear the contents of one of the CD Key boxes, the characters in the previous box may be selected. If you type the next characters in the CD key sequence, the cursor does not advance to the next box. Instead, the selected characters are overwritten.

WORKAROUND

Press TAB to advance the cursor to the next CD Key box.
