This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click
Details, you receive the following error message:
MSIEXEC caused an invalid page fault in MSIEXEC.EXE at ####:00400288.
NOTE: The actual memory address (####) may vary.
This problem occurs if your computer is infected with the
Win95.cih virus.
You can remove the virus by obtaining the latest version of
an anti-virus program and deleting and then reinstalling the Windows Installer
files. To do this, use the appropriate method for your operating
system.
NOTE: Do not attempt the steps in this section if you are running
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
(Me), because the Windows Installer files are part of the operating system for
these two products.
For Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98
- On the Start menu, click Shut Down.
- Select Restart in MS-DOS mode, and click OK.
- Change to the \Windows\System folder. For example, type
cd windows\system and press ENTER.
- Rename the following files:
Msi.dll
Msiexec.exe
Msihnd.dll
You can rename these files by using the Ren command. For example, "ren msi.dll msi.old" renames the Msi.dll
file to Msi.old. - Type Win and press ENTER. This
starts Windows.
- Double-click Instmsi.exe in the \Msi folder on the root of the Office 2000 CD.
For Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
- Stop the Windows Installer service.
- Double-click the Services control panel.
- Select the Windows Installer service in the list of services, and then click Stop.
- Click Yes to the prompt to confirm whether you want to stop the
service.
- Click Close.
- On the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Command Prompt.
- Change to the \Winnt\System32 folder. For example, type
cd winnt\system32 and press ENTER.
- Rename the following files:
Msi.dll
Msiexec.exe
Msihnd.dll
You can rename these files by using the Ren command. For example, "ren msi.dll msi.old" renames the Msi.dll
file to Msi.old. - Type exit and press
ENTER.
- Double-click Instmsiw.exe in the \Msi folder on the root of the Office 2000 CD.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
