OFF2000: Errors When You Attempt to Insert Clip Gallery Object in Office Program

This article was previously published under Q218689

SYMPTOMS

When you insert clip art into Microsoft Publisher, the following error message may appear:
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 2' disk, and click OK.
If you click Cancel, the following error message appears:
Clip Art Not Available.

The Clip Gallery is not installed. Please run Setup again to install the Clip Gallery. For more information on running Setup, press F1.
If you attempt to insert clip art in Microsoft Word, the following error message appears:
Microsoft Word can't display clip art. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now?
Similar error messages appear in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. Until you insert the Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 2, Clip Gallery does not function properly.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 2 is installed, and the application is set to run entirely from the CD-ROM. The settings for a file called Cagcat50.mmc are changed to point to the CD-ROM drive. Clip Gallery does not start unless it can access this file.

WORKAROUND

To repair the Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 1 installation, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 1 in the Add/Remove list. Then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Repair Office.
  5. Click Repair Errors in my Office Installation, and then click Finish.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000 Deluxe Disc 2.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Publisher 2000 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition
