SharePoint Upgrade Rules

SUMMARY

During a SharePoint upgrade (Version to Version Upgrade) you can decide your upgrade strategy but upgrading with customizations include limitations:

1. Upgrade with custom site definition: in a SharePoint Upgrade it is not possible to change a SPSite-Template or SPWeb-Template name after it is created.  It is also not allowed to change the template (id, name).

2. In a upgrade it is not allowed to use the upgrade definition file to map template1 to template2, which has different names. The template name must always be equal in a version to version upgrade of sharepoint.

3. Custom site definition: in a base type definition with field type definition it is not allowed to change the definition of the SQL mapping.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
