User permission assigned through Active Directory Group may fail to access Reporting services reports in SharePoint

SYMPTOMS

You configure Reporting Services integration with Windows SharePoint Services. You control the access users have to reports through assigning permissions to an AD Group where the users are a member. When you introduce a new user to an AD group which has permission to a RDL report, the user may not gain immediate access to the report. Instead, he may receive an access denied error

CAUSE

Reporting Services uses impersonation to retrieve the RDL file stored which requires use of a cached token in SharePoint. SharePoint refreshes tokens based on how the token-timeout property is configured. For any change on Group membership, it will take by default 24hrs for the token to refresh next time the user visits the site.

RESOLUTION

Either wait for 24 hours for the cached token to be refreshed, or change token-timeout property to a shorter value. The user should be able to access the report after the time period configured in token-timeout has elapsed.
