OFF2000: Extra Programs Listed in Removing Previous Versions Dialog Box
This article was previously published under Q228690
When you upgrade to Office 2000 and you are prompted to remove previous versions of Office programs, more programs may be listed in the
Microsoft Office 2000: Removing Previous Versions dialog box than are actually installed on your computer.
The behavior occurs when you do the following:
- Install Office 97 to run from CD-ROM.
-and-
- Remove Office 97.
-and-
- Install Office 97 on your hard disk without installing all of the Office 97 components.
-and-
- Upgrade to Office 2000.
To resolve this issue, continue the installation of Office 2000. Only the programs that are installed on your computer will be removed.
NOTE: If you want to keep previous versions, you must choose a Custom installation. The Custom installation allows you to keep or remove previous versions depending on whether the
Keep these programs check box is selected in the
Microsoft Office 2000: Removing Previous Versions dialog box.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
