OFF2000: Unable to Install Internet Explorer 5 in Office Maintenance Mode Setup

SYMPTOMS

If you run Office Setup in Maintenance Mode, there is no way to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

CAUSE

The option to install or not install Internet Explorer 5 is only available when you are running Office Setup and Office is not currently installed on your computer.

WORKAROUND

If you want to install Internet Explorer 5 from the Office CD, follow these steps:
  1. Open the \IE5\En folder on CD1.
  2. Double-click IE5setup.exe.
  3. Follow the directions in the Internet Explorer 5 Setup.
If you want to maintain an existing installation of Internet Explorer 5, run the Internet Explorer 5 Setup program through the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
