Windows timezone UTC +02:00 Cairo Daylight Saving Time updates for August and September 2010The Egyptian government revised the schedule for 2010 Daylight Savings Time (DST) in Egypt to accommodate the schedule for Ramadan. Instead of ending DST on 30th September, DST was suspended during Ramadan and then re-enabled again in September. The transition dates are: Collapse this tableExpand this table | Time | Date | | DST turns off | 23:59:59 | 10 August | | DST turns on | 23:59:59 | 9 September | | DST turns off again | 23:59:59 | 30 September |
Fix it for meTo respond to the revised schedule, Microsoft released three Fix it Automated solutions, one for each expected transition date. Each Fix it is intended to be applied for a specific period as listed below. These Fix it solutions will update Windows registry keys regarding Daylight Savings Time. Note you will need to apply the appropriate Fix it solution during the relevant time period to match the revised DST schedule. | Prior to 10 August 2010 | Turned DST off at 23:59:59 on 10 August 2010 | Microsoft Fix it 50488 is no longer relevant. | | After 11 August 2010 and before 9 September 2010 | Turned DST on at 23:59:59 on 9 September 2010 | Microsoft Fix it 50489 is no longer relevant. | | After September 10th and before 31 December 2010 | Turns off DST on 30 September 2010. Fix it 3: Install this Fix it Solution after 9 September 2010. This turns DST off at 23:59:59 on 30 September 2010. Important notes regarding these Microsoft Fix it Automated solutions- The Fix it technology used in this solution does not work with IA64 systems. If you are running Windows on a IA64 system, refer to the "Let me fix it myself" section for steps.
- History will reflect the current range specified in the most recently applied Fix it. Since DST history reflects a single DST period per year, after all the changes are complete (October), the 2010 DST period for Egypt will be listed as running continuously from April through September.
- If you applied Fix it 2, the text on the Date and Time dialog will not list the September 9th DST transition. This is a text-only issue ; it does not prevent the clock or the system time from adjusting correctly for DST.
- The Fix it will update the Windows registry entry for DST, so the system clock shows the corrected time. However, there are additional considerations for Exchange and Outlook:
- Before applying the Fix it described in this article, be aware of potential issues that may affect Microsoft Outlook. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to address time zone changes by using the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook - If you are running Microsoft Exchange Server in an Information Technology (IT) environment, you must take additional measures to guarantee the correct operation of Exchange Server. How to address daylight saving time by using the Exchange Calendar Update Tool
Let me fix it myselfIf you would prefer to update your system manually, or you are running on an IA64 system, you can perform one of the following methods during the period between 11 August and 9 September 2010: Method 1: Changing the time zone information in Control Panel- In Control Panel, select Clock, Language and Region
- Click on Date and Time
- Click the Change Time Zone button
- Do one of the following after 9 September 2010:

-or-
If you did not apply Fix it 1 and previously changed your timezone to UTC +2:00 Harare,Pretoria you can revert that change by updating your current time zone to UTC+2:00 Cairo, Egypt
- Select OK to exit dialog.
Method 2: Changing the time zone information in the registryImportant This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
