Problems Installing Network Monitor When Local Area Connection Properties Is Open
This article was previously published under Q231206
After you install the full version of the Network Monitor tool on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, the Network Monitor driver is not added to Local Area Connection properties. Note that this problem does not occur unless you install the full version of the Network Monitor tool.
This problem can occur if a
Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is open when you install the Network Monitor tool. The Network Monitor installation program cannot automatically add the Network Monitor driver if this dialog box is open.
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
Method 1
Verify that there are no
Local Area Connection Properties dialog
boxes open before you install Network Monitor.
Method 2
Install the Network Monitor driver again from the
Local Area Connection Properties dialog box.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Standard Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
