Crawling content larger than 1MB in SharePoint list columns of type "Multiple lines of text" results in "The filename or extension is too long" crawl log error messages
Office SharePoint Server 2007 fails to crawl content larger than 1MB in list columns of type "Multiple lines of text" and the crawl log contains error messages with the text "The filename or extension is too long".
To resolve this issue, apply the following hotfix packages:

NOTE: After you apply the hotfixes described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles 983307 and 983305, perform the steps below on the index server to configure crawling of content larger than the default 1MB (1,048,576 bytes) for list columns of type "Multiple lines of text" by defining the maximum acceptable size of that content:
