Cannot Apply Folder Customization Globally
This article was previously published under Q232743
When you customize a folder and then attempt to apply the same customization globally for all folders, all of the customization options applied to the original folder may not be applied globally to all folders.
To work around this behavior, customize each folder's background wallpaper and sorting options separately.
This behavior is by design.
When you customize a folder to display background wallpaper or sorting options, to apply the changes, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Folder Options.
- On the View tab, click Like Current Folder. The customization of the original folder may not be applied globally to your other folders.
To change a folder view, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Customize This Folder.
- Open another folder, on the View menu, click As Web Page.
- On the View menu, click Folder Options.
- On the View tab, click Like Current Folder. The change may not be applied to folders with settings that have been modified with the Customize This Folder command.
To reset all folder views to their default setting, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- On the View tab, click Reset Folders.
NOTE: Clicking on
Reset Folders DOES NOT remove customizations created using the
Customize This Folder option.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
