Server Error: Cannot Mark a Folder Executable on This Server

This article was previously published under Q236085

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new project with the Web Project Wizard in Visual InterDev 1.0, the following error message occurs:
Server Error: Cannot mark a folder executable on this server
A subweb is created on the server; however, Visual InterDev 1.0 cannot open it.

CAUSE

Visual InterDev 1.0 attempts to set the project folder as executable; however, this does not work because the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions installation disables the Allow Authors to Upload Executables option.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Internet Service Manager MMC.
  2. Right-click the virtual server name.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Click the Server Extensions tab.
  5. Select the Don't Inherit Security Settings check box.
  6. Check Allow Authors to Upload Executables.
  7. Click OK.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
