Edit with Microsoft FrontPage Option Not Available in Internet Explorer 5.0
This article was previously published under Q238467
When you browse to a page with a .htm or .html file extension in Internet Explorer 5.0, the
Edit with Microsoft FrontPage option in Internet Explorer 5.0 is not available.
Note: The
Edit button may be disabled (greyed out) in the browser.
Content Expiration is enabled in IIS and is set to expire immediately.
Set content to expire after a
minimum of one minute in IIS. To change this setting, do the following:
- Click Start and Point to Programs.
- Point to Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
- Point to Microsoft Internet Information Server.
- Click Internet Service Manager.
- Right-click the virtual server and click properties.
- On the HTTP Headers tab, select the second radio button and set Content Expiration. Click OK.
Content Expiration is disabled by default. This means that any expiration set on your virtual server was set manually. Internet Explorer will not allow you to edit the content, because it is old (or expired) content, which may no longer be valid.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
