NFS Share Fails to come online under a Mount point in a cluster.

SYMPTOMS

Cannot create NFS share under a mount point in a cluster or on a Standalone Server.



Issue 1:

Scenario on a Clustered Server.

You will see the following Event ID's logged in system event viewer.

Log Name:      System
Source:        NFSShare
Event ID:      1010
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A 
Description:

Cluster NFS Share : Cannot bring resource online for path 'J:\Test' due to the error: The specified share name is already in use or you are trying to modify the properties of a share which is online.



Log Name:      System
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
Event ID:      1069
Task Category: Resource Control Manager
Level:         Error 
User:          SYSTEM
Description:
Cluster resource 'Test' in clustered service or application 'File Share' failed.


Issue 2:


Standalone Server


You cannot create the NFS share under a mount point on a Standalone Server 

Error Message: "Server for NFS cannot update the share configuration.Try updating the shared directory again, or delete and recreate the shared directory."



CAUSE

This is by Design


RESOLUTION

NFS share cannot be created under a mount point in a cluster or on a stand alone server.

Issue 1

Under Cluster.log you see the following entries:

ERR [RES] NFS Share <Test>: Cluster NFS Share <Test>: Cannot bring resource online for path 'J:\Test' due to the error: The specified share name is already in use or you are trying to modify the properties of a share which is online.
ERR [RHS] Online for resource Test failed.
WARN [RCM] HandleMonitorReply: ONLINERESOURCE for 'Test', gen(0) result 5018.
