"Error 53" Error Message When You Try to Connect to a Windows 2000 Domain-Based DFS Share

When you attempt to connect to a Windows 2000 domain-based Distributed File System (DFS) share using a Windows NT-based client, you may receive the following error message:
System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found.
This problem occurs because Windows 2000 includes new DFS fault tolerant features not implemented in the Windows NT version of the Mup.sys file.

How to Obtain the Latest Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition.
This problem was first corrected in Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 6 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6.
The changes included in this fix permit Windows NT-based clients to use aliasing to obtain access to Domain-based DFS shares.
