Audio Stream Is Distorted after a Few Hours of Encoding

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Windows Media Audio V2 codec and encode audio and video for several hours, the audio beep or sound may be garbled, jumpy, or electronic sounding.

CAUSE

This is a problem with the Windows Media Audio V2 codec.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

This hotfix has been posted to the following Internet location as Wmsu3496.exe:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, try the following:
  • Use a different Codec.
  • Stop and restart the encoder to resolve the problem temporarily.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
