DSS80: Unable to Install Digital Software on Windows 2000- or Windows XP-Based Computer
This article was previously published under Q254305
When you install the Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 (DSS80) software
on a Microsoft Windows 2000- or Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Setup did not detect Windows 98 running on your computer.
Setup requires Windows 98 to install the software.
Refer to the User's Guide for Microsoft Digital Sound Software system requirements.
When you click
OK, you return to the Setup screen.
Although the DSS80 hardware can work properly on a Windows 2000-based or Windows XP-based computer, you can only install the software on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 1.0 Standard Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
