Unable to Uninstall Microsoft Plus! 98 After Upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q257768
When you upgrade your computer to Windows Millennium Edition (Me) from Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, you are unable to uninstall Microsoft Plus! 98. Plus! 98 is not available as an uninstall option in the Add/Remove Programs tool on the
Install/Uninstall tab.
To uninstall single, multiple, or all components of Plus! 98, use the following steps.
NOTE: The following steps assume that the computer has more than 250 MB of free space available to copy files to.
- Copy the contents of the Plus! 98 CD-ROM to a folder named Plus on the hard disk.
- In the x:\Plus folder (where x is the drive letter of the drive you copied the Plus! 98 CD-ROM contents to), right-click Setup.
- Rename Setup to Uninstall, and then press ENTER.
- Double-click the Uninstall item you just renamed.
- In the Plus! 98 Setup Again dialog box, make sure that the Add/Remove, Reinstall or Uninstall option is selected, and then click Next.
- In the Setup Maintenance area, click Add/Remove, and then click Next to select the items you want to uninstall.
NOTE: To uninstall the entire Plus! 98 suite, click Uninstall, and then click Next. - When the Start Copying Files dialog box is displayed, click Next.
- When the process is finished, click Finish.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Millennium Edition.
Plus! 98 is a software package developed and tested for Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition. It has not been updated or tested with Windows Me.
It is not recommended that you install Plus! 98 on Windows Millennium Edition. Many of the components included in Plus! 98 are now included in Windows Me.
