How to Restore Windows Me, Windows 98, and Windows 95 Desktop Settings
This article was previously published under Q258969
You can customize the appearance of the desktop on your Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows 98, or Windows 95-based computer. For example you can alter the background picture (wallpaper), the default colors, the displayed font sizes, and so on. Under some conditions, it may be useful to return the desktop settings to the original settings. This articles describes how to restore your original desktop settings.
Windows Me, Windows 98, and Windows 95 provide a standard group of settings for the desktop and background. These settings are
Windows Standard for the desktop, and
None for the background picture or image. To restore these original desktop settings:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
- Click the Background tab. In Windows 98, click None in the Select an HTML Document or a picture box. In Windows 95, click None in the Wallpaper box.
- On the Appearance tab, click Windows Standard in the Scheme box, and then click OK.
- Restart your computer.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
