SYMPTOMS

When you try to restore a backup set, you may receive the following error message:
The catalog is empty for the selected device. Click the refresh button to view the contents of the media in the currently selected device.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you are attempting to restore a backup set created with an earlier version of MSBackup. Versions of MSBackup prior to Windows 95 utilized a format that is incompatible with the current quarter-inch cartridge (QIC) format.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, download and install MS-DOS Backup from the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.Microsoft.com/download/win95upg/bkup_b/1.0/W95/EN-US/msback.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/bkup_b/1.0/w95/en-us/msback.exe)
NOTE: This version of backup is also included on the Windows 95 CD-ROM in the Other\oldmsdos\msbackup folder.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
