The Help and Support Instructions for Reinstalling Internet Connection Sharing Are Incorrect
This article was previously published under Q265327
The instructions in the
Help and Support dialog box tell you to use the Internet Tools component in Add/Remove Programs to remove Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). These instructions are incorrect.
The Internet Tools component group does not exist in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me). ICS is located in the Communications component group on the
Windows Setup tab in Add/Remove Programs.
To reinstall ICS, follow these steps:
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click the Windows Setup tab.
- In the Components box, double-click Communications.
- Click to clear the Internet Connection Sharing check box, click OK, and then click OK.
- Restart your computer when prompted.
- Repeat steps one through four, but in step four, click to select the Internet Connection Sharing check box.
- Restart your computer when prompted.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
The instructions which tell you to use the Internet Tools component are located in the
Help and Support dialog box. To find these instructions, follow these steps:
- In the Help and Support dialog box, click Troubleshooting, and then click Home Networking and network problems.
- Click Internet Connection Sharing Troubleshooter, and then click I don't see a Sharing button on the Connections tab of the Internet Options dialog box.
- Click To reinstall Internet Connection Sharing.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
