Windows 98 and Windows Me Error Message Resource Center
When you are upgrading to Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you may receive the following error message when the file copy process is 10 percent complete:
SUWIN This program has caused an illegal operation and will be shut down. SUWin caused an invalid page fault in module Unknown at 0000:XXXX XXXX.
After you acknowledge the error message, Setup continues normally.
This behavior can occur if Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 is installed.
To prevent this error message from occurring, uninstall SQL Server 7.0 before you upgrade to Windows Me.
To work around this behavior, disable the path for SQL Server 7.0 in the Autoexec.bat file before you upgrade to Windows Me:
- Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- Click the Autoexec.bat tab.
- Click to clear the following check box:
PATH=%PATH%;C:\MSSQL7\BINN
- Click OK, and then restart the computer.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
