SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) on a computer that has CeQuadrat Packet Writer Software installed, you receive the following error message:
Windows Protection Error. System Halted

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you have old drivers for the CeQuadrat Packet Writer Software installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install the updated drivers from the software manufacturer, following these steps:
  1. Start your computer and go to an MS-DOS prompt.
  2. Rename the following file in the Windows\System\IOSubsys directory:
    C2udffs.vxd
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. From the following location, obtain and install the updated drivers Service Pack PacketCD Win9.x version 3.00.209 Pcd209up.exe file, which includes the updated C2udffs.vxd:
