Background Remains in the Screen Saver After Customized Settings Are Removed
This article was previously published under Q269480
When you use the Customize This Folder Wizard to remove the customized settings from the My Pictures screen saver folder, the background that was removed may continue to be displayed.
This behavior can occur because the Background.gif file remains in the Folder Settings folder after the customized settings of the My Pictures folder are removed.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- In Microsoft Windows Explorer, double-click My Pictures.
- Double-click Folder Settings.
- Right-click the name of the background file (for example, Background.gif), and then click Delete.
If the Folder Settings folder is not present, you must disable the hidden files setting. To do so, follow these steps:
- In Windows Explorer, click the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
- Click to select the Show hidden files and folders check box.
- Click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.
- Click OK.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
