STS: Error Message: "Application Did Not Save Document" When Saving File to SharePoint Team Web Site

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save to shared documents or any Document Library on a Web site based on SharePoint Team Services, Microsoft Office programs begin the save process but stop midway. You receive the following error message:
Application did not save document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Web server.

NOTE: To restart IIS Web services, you must be the Windows NT (machine) administrator on the IIS Web server running SharePoint Team Services.
  1. At the command prompt, type net stop w3svc to stop service.
  2. At the command prompt, type net start w3svc to start service.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
