Sound Recorder May Display an Error Message When You Run It the First Time on a Localized Language

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Sound Recorder tool the first time on a localized version of Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Sound Recorder settings have been changed by another program. As a result, Sound Recorder may not work correctly. Click Yes if you would like to fix this problem now, otherwise click No.

CAUSE

This error message is caused by a difference between the resource string that is stored in the file and a registry value. Clicking Yes in the error message box causes the registry value to become the same as the resource string that is stored in the binary file; the error message does not occur again.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, click Yes when the error message is displayed. The error message will not be displayed again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
