Unable to Configure TCP/IP Settings for Dial-Up Networking
This article was previously published under Q275562
When you try to use the Network tool in Control Panel to configure some of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings for Dial-Up Networking in Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you may be unable to do so.
This issue can occur because some TCP/IP settings for the Dial-Up Networking adapter have been removed from the Network tool in Control Panel. However, in Windows Me, you can configure TCP/IP settings for each connection that calls a network.
To resolve this issue, configure TCP/IP settings for Dial-Up Networking connections by clicking the
TCP/IP Settings button on the
Networking tab for each individual connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder.
This behavior is by design.
In most cases, TCP/IP properties are unique to the specific network that you are calling. In previous versions of Windows, properties that were set for TCP/IP that is bound to the Dial-Up Networking adapter override the per-connection settings. Windows Me prevents this behavior by only allowing you to configure TCP/IP properties for each connection that calls a network.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
