Cannot Run Commerce Server 2000 COM Objects as Isolated in IIS

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create Commerce Server 2000 COM components in low isolation mode in Internet Information Services (IIS), the COM component creation may fail in Commerce Server 2000 ASP pages.

CAUSE

When you run the Commerce Server 2000 COM components under low isolation, the calling process runs without loading a user profile. When one of the Commerce Server 2000 ASP pages attempts to instantiate one of these COM components, COM invokes Windows Installer to get information about the COM components. The invocation to Windows Installer may fail, which in turn causes the component object instantiation to fail. The failure in Windows Installer occurs because the Windows Installer service is reading from a registry location that is not available.
