OFFXP: Option to Remove All Previous Versions of Programs Does Not Clear Individual Program Check Boxes
This article was previously published under Q280563
When you install Microsoft Office XP, if you click
Remove all previous versions, the check boxes for the individual programs remain selected. For example, when you click
Remove all previous versions, the
Word check box is still selected, the
Excel check box is still selected, and so on.
To remove only some programs from the earlier version of Microsoft Office, follow these steps:
- Click Remove only the following applications.
- Click to select the check box for each program that you want to remove during the upgrade, and then click Next.
To keep all the programs from the earlier version, follow these steps:
- Click Remove only the following applications.
- Click to clear the check boxes for all the programs that are listed, and then click Next.
Office XP Setup will preserve all the programs from the earlier version during the installation of Office XP.
NOTE: The option to remove all earlier versions is not available if Outlook 97/98/2000 has been installed.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
