Error Message: PPTP Does Not Allow the Number of Ports to Be Set to Zero
This article was previously published under Q282097
When you try to set the
Maximum Ports value of the PPTP WAN Miniport device to zero (0) through the
Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) snap-in, you may receive the following
error message:
PPTP does not allow the number of ports
to be set to zero.
To resolve this problem, you must prevent either incoming
or outgoing Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) connections. To do so,
follow the appropriate method:
To Prevent Incoming PPTP Connections
- In Routing and Remote Access Service, click the PLUS SIGN
(+) to expand the node of the RRAS server.
- Right-click Ports, and then click Properties.
- Click to clear the Remote Access Connections
(inbound only) check box.
To Prevent Incoming and Outgoing PPTP Connections
This method achieves the same result as setting the
Maximum Ports value to zero.
- In Routing and Remote Access Service, click the PLUS SIGN
(+) to expand the node of the RRAS server.
- Right-click Ports, and then click Properties.
- Click to clear the Remote Access Connections
(inbound only) check box, and then click to clear the
Demand-dial routing connections (inbound and
outbound).
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.

correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
